Healthy Treats to put in a Kong

Amanda Bazley

So, you've purchased a wonderful Kong toy for your dog, which I think is one of the must have puppy essentials, but what can you put in it?

Below are some great ideas of healthy treats that you can stuff in your dogs Kong:

  • Apples (without core, stem, or seeds)
  • Asparagus
  • Baby Food (natural)
  • Bananas
  • Blackberries (will stain – use with caution)
  • Blueberries (will stain – use with caution)
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Sliced Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Cheese (in moderation)
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Cucumber
  • Eggs (cooked)
  • Green Beans
  • Honey (in moderation due to high sugar content)
  • Kale
  • Oatmeal
  • Oranges (in moderation)
  • Peanut Butter (we use organic)
  • Peas
  • Pineapple (fresh)
  • Pumpkin (we cook/ cut up in cubes)
  • Rice (cooked)
  • Salmon
  • Spinach
  • Squash
  • Steak
  • Strawberries
  • Sugar Snap Peas
  • Sweet Potato (cooked-steamed)
  • Watermelon (seedless)
  • Yogurt (plain, lowfat)
  • Zucchini

We find that if you add a squirt of the Kong "Stuff and Paste" in the Kong with these healthy treats it will make it more of a challenge for your puppy/dog to get the treats out of the Kong, which will also increase play time and entertainment.

* We love to add a few slices of Strawberry into our Kongs in Summer and then add in some yoghurt, place them in the Freezer...and the dogs love them.
